We began as a simple company, established in Montreal by Walter J. Armstrong in 1913. In 1933 he (Walter) dispatched Dr. Karl Rybka to open an office in Toronto, which was at the cusp of the new age.

Early projects included the Toronto Stock Exchange, Maple Leaf Gardens, Bank of Nova Scotia and many more.

Dr. Rybka re-named the company in the late 1960’s to honour his most senior partners.  The company became Rybka, Smith and Ginsler Limited.  Dr. Rybka recognized the importance of working with these two very different and remarkably talented people: Odric Smith was a true engineer’s engineer.  A serious smoker, many of his drawings showed evidence of his nasty habit. Lionel Ginsler, who died tragically at his prime in 1978 in a car accident, was the quintessential executive with excellence in: sales; mentoring; motivation and true leadership. His sudden death was devastating.

For several years after the death of Lionel Ginsler the company floundered. Along came a young Egyptian man keen on making his way in a new country. Richard (Rick) Armstrong Sr, one of Mr. Ginsler’s protégés, hired Hani Motran. After the culmination of a remarkable career, Hani Motran took over as President with Richard Armstrong Jr as Vice President in 2001.  Together they set ambitious goals. Their philosophy was to create working and client relationships that improved the quality of peoples’ lives. Basic, effective, and human. The company went on to be a local, provincial, and global leader in mechanical and electrical building engineering.

In 2005 Rybka, Smith and Ginsler merged with Marshall, Macklin, Monaghan (later renamed MMM Group).  Over time, the company grew and became part of WSP Group.

Today rybka is a newly independent company in building Consulting Engineering.
